Discourse Media invites you to invest in the future of journalism in Canada

At Discourse Media, we are boldly re-imagining journalism—how it is funded, created and shared. We’re inviting all Canadians to be part of it.

From November 8 until December 15, Canadians can invest in Discourse through FrontFundr, an innovative online platform that enables individuals to buy equity in private companies. This democratization of ownership enables everyday Canadians to participate in the startup economy — and to support the next generation of journalism in Canada.

We’re offering $750,000 in shares, with a minimum investment amount of $250.

Why? We want as many people as possible to help us create a national investigative journalism company to serve Canadians.

And we believe it’s an incredible business opportunity.

Canadians already pay $115 million a year for digital news subscriptions, an amount that will triple in 10 years. Global news media subscriptions can — and will — reach Spotify (50 million) and Netflix (95 million) levels. Discourse intends to be a global leader in engagement journalism.

Discourse has been valued at $4.25 million and, in 2017, our company will earn close to $1 million in revenue in 2017. That’s 72 per cent annual revenue growth without advertising.

With the funds raised during this campaign, we will hire more reporters and editors nationally, launch an innovative digital platform that will enable Canadians to be informed by and interact with Discourse’s work, and create an ambitious membership drive in spring 2018. Our goal is to grow to 30,000 members by 2020, which will generate $4 million in annual revenue — enough to build a network of 20 investigative units nationwide.
