There are 1.2 billion people around the world without access to basic electricity for things like lighting, food preparation and storage.
Of these 1.2 billion people without access to electricity, 80% come from rural areas and 53% come from Africa.
The World Health Organization estimates that 4.3 million deaths a year are caused by household air pollution resulting from the combustion of fuels, such as wood, charcoal and kerosene.
The world relied on renewable sources of energy for 13.2% of its supply in 2012 and 22% in 2013. The International Energy Agency projects that this number will grow to 26% by 2020.
The world's population is projected to grow by 16%, while electrification is projected to decline by 33% by 2030.
